Modak Recipe


Modak is the most popular Prasad for Ganesh Chaturthi Festival.

Modak can be made in different ways like boiling, frying, etcIn Modak you can add various types of stuffing like chocolate, coconut, peanuts, puran, suji, jaggery, sesame, maida, etc.

Modaks are made on auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi FestivalEven though in every month there is one Chaturthi came on that day also in most of the houses modaks are made.

This festival comes with lots of happinessIn every home, children and elders get busy in the preparation for the arrival of Lord GaneshChildren are busy in the preparation of decoration for this festivalThis festival is celebrated for ten days with great.

This festival also known as Gauri Ganpati FestivalBecause Gauri Festival also came during Ganpati FestivalThis Gauri Festival for three daysIn this festival lots of dishes are made on the second day of festival for goddess Gauri.


Ingredients for the Atte ka Halwa Recipe is followed:

  1. Wheat Flour (Atta) – 2 cups
  2. Hot Water (Garam Pani) – 4 cups
  3. Dry Fruits – ½ cup
  4. Grated Coconut – ½ cup
  5. Cardamom Powder (Illayachi Powder) – 1 teaspoon
  6. Ghee or Oil – 1 cup

Procedure for Making Atte ka Halwa

  1. Heat a Pan or Kadhai add 1 cup of ghee or oil.
  2. When the ghee melt then add 2 cups of Atta i.eWheat FlourMix it well on low flame.
  3. Stir the wheat flour continuously in the ghee and make sure it will not get burn from bottom side.
  4. Add 1 teaspoon of Cardamom Powder and mix it well.
  5. Stir the wheat flour until it’s changes to golden brown.
  6. Then add 4 cups of hot water and mix it well.
  7. Cover the Pan or Kadhai with lid for 5 minute on low flame.
  8. Open the lid and stir it well with spoon every after 1 minute.
  9. Then add 1 cup of sugar and mix it well.
  10. Cover the Pan or Kadhai with lid for 5 minutes on low flameBut make sure in between these 5 minutes open the lid and stir it with spoon.
  11. Otherwise the Halwa will burn from bottom side.
  12. Then Turn off the flame and your halwa will ready.

Serve the Atte ka Halwa Garnishing with dry fruits as Prasad for Ganesh Puja.

Making the Modak of Atte ka Halwa with Mould

  1. Take a Modak Mould and place the Atte ka Halwa Filling inside it.
  2. Press with fingers the filling properly inside the modak mould.
  3. Open the modal mould and place the Modak in Plate.
  4. Like this make other modaks for Puja

Making the Modak of Atte ka Halwa Fried Modak With Mould

  1. Take a 2 cup Plain Flour i.eMaida in a Plate or BowlYou can take 2 cups of Plain Wheat Flour instead of Maida.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of Salt in the Maida/Plain Flour.
  3. Add 2 teaspoon of hot oil and mix it well with the help of the spoon.
  4. Add the water slowly and try to make doughMake non-stick dough of MaidaRest the dough for 15 minutes.
  5. Make a small ball from dough then slightly flattened it and dust it flour.
  6. Try to make a small sized roti shape from it with the help of rolling pin.
  7. Take a Modak Mould in one hand then place the roti over the mould.
  8. Place the Aate ka Halwa filling inside the Modak Mould then close it.
  9. From the bottom side of mould press the filling properly with fingers.
  10. Then cover the bottom side with the remaining extra roti of maida and press properly with fingers.
  11. Remove the extra part from the outside of mould with the help of fingers.
  12. Open the Modak Mould and place the Modak on the plateIn this way make other modaks.
  13. Heat a Pan or Kadhai add 2 cups of oil or ghee.
  14. Fry the Modaks in the ghee or oil until they turn golden brown.


Serve the Modaks as you like for Ganesh Puja.


Making the Modak without Mould

  1.  Take a Plate or Bowl add 2 cups of wheat flour in it.
  2. Add 2 teaspoon of Salt in the wheat flour.
  3. Add 2 teaspoon of Hot oil in the wheat FlourMix it well with spoon.
  4. Add water to the flour slowly and make a non-stick dough of wheat flour.
  5. Make a small ball from dough and slightly flattened it and dust it with flour.
  6. Make a small sized round shape roti from the small ball.
  7. Take the small ball in one hand then place the Aate ka halwa in the middle of the roti.
  8. With the help of fingers make small fold and join all the edges.
  9. After joining the edges remove the extra part of roti from the upper side of the modak.
  10. Like this make other modak and place them in the plate.
  11. Heat a Pan or Kadhai add 2 cups of oil or ghee.
  12. Fry the modaks in the Kadhai until it’s colors changed golden brown.


Garnish the modak with dry fruits and serve as you like.
