Sabudana Kheer is my mom’s favourite dish for fasting daysShe always wants to make it on her vrat dayBut I mention before in Sabudana Khichdi Recipe me & my sister always like Sago Khichdi.

We always forced her to make Khichdi & she will get irritated.

I remember when she had fastWe were fighting with her to make Sabudana KhichdiShe gets angry & step out of the Kitchen without saying any word.

At that time we take it seriously & realize that she gets sad.

In order to make her mood better, we had started to make Sabudana Kheer for mom on our own.

That time there were no youtube channels or if they were present we don’t know about it.

In starting we made mistake because we had taken steel pan & we proceed further with kheerIt burnedAs we don’t know how to cook it properlyThe smell of burning spread in house.

Mom entered in kitchen fast due to smell & switch off the gas flameThat time she got more angry at us.

As the Kheer burned she had eaten fruits only on that day.

When we remembered it  & gets a smile on faceSometimes this moment was recalled mom & she laughed at usShe said how childish you are!

Ingredients  For Sabudana Kheer

  • 2 cups Sabudana (tapioca pearls) (soaked)

  • 1 ½ cups sugar (Chini)

  • 2 cups boiled water (Pani)

  • 2 cups milk (Dhudh)

  •  1 teaspoon cardamom Powder (Ilayachi powder)

  • 2 teaspoon ghee

  • Vanilla Essence – ½ teaspoon (optional)

  • 2 to 3 chopped almonds (Badam) for garnishing

How to make Sabudana Kheer

1 Rinse the Sabudana pearls with water in a pot.

2 Soaked the sabudana into the water for 2 hoursIt will absorb all the waterBecause of this, its size rises.

3 In the pan at low flame add 2 tsp ghee/butter.

4 Then add 2 tsp of cardamom powder & stir itAfter that add sago pearls and mix it well for 2 minutes.

 5 After that add 1 cup of warm water and cover the pan for 5 minutes.

6 After 5 minutes open the cover and stir itAdd 2 cup of milk & stir it for 3minutesAfter adding milk into sabudana don’t cover it with leadAllow it to have opened without covering.

7 Add 1 ½ cup of sugar and cook it for 5 minMake sure cook till the sugar dissolves.

8 After cooing sabudana kheer wellTurn off the flame.

9 Serve the hot sabudana kheer into the serving bowl with chopped almonds.

Garnish it with chopped almondsAnd enjoy it chilled or warm as per your like.

Step Step Process of Sabudana ki Kheer Recipe for Upvas

1.Take 2 cups of Sago tapico pearls in a pot, washed it & rinse offThen add 1 ½ cup of water for soakingSoaking will depend upon the type of Sabudana you haveSometimes sago pearls will soak within 1 or 2 hours or some pearls will take overnightSo you must find out how much time it will take for soaking.

2Ingredients for sabudana kheer – 1 teaspoon ghee, 2 teaspoons of cardamom powder, 2 cups of soaked sabudana pearls, 1 cup of boil water, 2 cups of milk, 1 ½ cups of sugar, ½ Vanilla Essence (optional), 1 or 2 chopped almonds for garnishing.

3Take a pan or Kadhai heat the 2 teaspoons of ghee & wait till it melts on medium flame.

4Add 2 teaspoon of Cardamom Powder & allow it for 1 seconds.

5Then add 2 cups of soaked Sago Tapico pearls & mix it well in ghee for 2 minutes.

6Add 2 cups of Hot Water & stir itOn the medium flame allow it boil for 5 minutes.

7Add 2 cups of Milk to it & mix it wellYou can Hot or Cold Milk as you likeYou can also add cream to it as you need.

8Add 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Essence & Mix it well.

9Add 1 ½ cups of sugar & stir it wellCook Sabudana Kheer until the sugar gets dissolvedBetween the time you must sauté itSugar doesn’t take much time to dissolveIt will get dissolve within 3 to 4 minutes.

Serve the Sago Kheer garnished with chopped almonds or as you like.

Important Points

  1. You must soak the Sabudana before you want to make Sabudana KheerDepending upon the type of Sabudana you can soak it for 2 to 3 hours or the whole night.

  2. Make the Sabudane ki Kheer in Aluminium Pan or Kadhai or Non-Stick Pan or KadhaiDo not use Steel Pan or Kadhai otherwise it will burn from the bottom sideTapico Pearls also stick from bottom side of a pan.

  3. Stir the Kheer continuously in order to save it for burning.

  4. This Kheer will get thick when it coolsServe it warm or cold as you like.
